This project will serve the Homewood neighborhood, where my family has lived for generations. Our overarching goal with this proposal is to create an artist residency space for Black women and mothers on Inwood Street. Our vision for the microgrant is to fund an important part of that project: creating a large-scale mural that will serve as the kickoff event and pronouncement for the residency program. While we anticipate that the interior renovations to create a studio and living space will take an additional year to complete, this mural is a short-term and much-needed goal with immediate benefits. A mural will also create public interest and support for our residency program. In the final design and execution, we will honor and uplift our community and the rich history and promising future of Homewood.
