Saltwater Veterans is a social network of military veterans who use sailing (and adaptive sailing) to be physically and mentally active. This is an evidence-based psychosocial activity with proven outcomes for veteran re-engagement, rehabilitation, and social reintegration. Scientific study shows significant measurable improvements in veteran PTSD, depression, and anxiety symptoms as well as improvements to individual resilience when compared to a non-participating control group.
Saltwater Veterans does not have external funding. Public Liability Insurance, web hosting, legal fees, mooring fees, and servicing of equipment are all presently self-funded. Access to sailing vessels is currently from loaned individuals and local clubs.
With the help of the Awesome Foundation, Saltwater Veterans can now better promote and equip special sailing experiences, increasing the impact of this unique program.
